The city is adjacent to, and named after, Lake Worth, a popular recreational lake in the northwestern portion of Tarrant County. Lake Worth Independent School District is a public school district based in Lake Worth. In addition to Lake Worth, the district serves small portions of Fort Worth and Sansom Park.
